Tips for Meal Prepping When You Go RV Camping
Who doesn’t love camping or traditional “camp food”? Hotdogs, hamburgers, s’mores, yum! But if you are going camping on an extended trip or trying to eat healthier when you go camping it helps to make a few things ahead of time. You can prep some meals and keep them in the freezer till you’re ready to go or even use these tricks to cut down on cooking time.
How to make meal prep easier in a small space:
- Use Foil Packets: Wrap raw ingredients in foil (chicken and vegetables or any protein/veggie combo) that’s it! Seal them in a zip lock bag or container to prevent leaking. Keep them in the freezer, pull them out and throw them on the grill when you’re ready to cook!
- One Pot Meals: Choose one pot meals and cut back on the number of dishes required.
- Prep Veggies: Cut your veggies beforehand and store vegetables in “ready to go bags” so cooking is a breeze and reduce the amount of space your produce takes up on the counter or in the refrigerator.
- Smoothies: Prep smoothies beforehand by placing all the smoothie ingredients in a zip lock baggie and store it in the freezer.
- Cook in Batches: Cook ingredients like ground beef or chicken in big batches and then use those ingredients in multiple meals throughout the week rather than cooking smaller batches of different ingredients. For example, purchase ground beef in large amounts and then use it for various dinners throughout the week like spaghetti, tacos, chili, casserole, shepherds pie etc.
- Extra Space: Have a folding table handy since counter space is limited and this will give you more workspace for designated days/times when you meal prep.
- Portions: For eating healthier and reducing food waste- portion meals out. For example, if you make overnight oats ahead of time then store appropriate portion sizes in separate containers.
- Grill: Take advantage of the grill where you can cook, where you have more room to cook steaks, fish, chicken, veggies and fruits outside.
Prepping your meals ahead of time can make your traveling and camping experience so much easier and leave more time for the things you really enjoy doing when your out on the road. You might have less room in your RV’s kitchen, but you can still enjoy your favorite meals with a little planning and foresight. We hope you enjoyed this post.
