“Cozy Camping in the Winter”

The coldest time of the year can also be the most beautiful time of the year. From icy lakes to the beautiful winter- green forests, don’t let the colder temperatures deter your travels. We have a few tips below for “winterizing” your trailer so the cold weather doesn’t stop you from enjoying your RV.

Floors and Windows:

Heat can escape your trailer through the windows and the floors can get very cold. Adding thick rugs to the floor will create an additional barrier to trap the warm air inside. Consider adding additional insulation to prevent the heat from escaping the windows through one of the following methods: foam insulation boards, bubble insulation or solar blankets. To provide even more warmth you could line your windows with heavy weight thermal curtains. See pictures below for examples of the different insulation types.

Doors:

Once you take care of the windows doors are another area where heat loss occurs. A simple solution is to pick up weather stripping online or at a home improvement store. The strip goes beneath the door to prevent cold drafts from blowing in and stealing the warmth inside your camper.

Skirting

Skirting is a tactic often used for motorhomes, but it can also be used to protect the vulnerable machinery on trailers too (pipes, plumbing, etc.). Skirting is a fabric you wrap around the bottom half of your trailer that prevents cold from coming in underneath. A skirt can help control indoor temperatures and reduce your propane usage by reducing the amount of fuel needed to keep the inside warm.

Some other options to keep your trailer comfortable include:

Space heaters (extra heating options that won’t take up too much space)

Thermal sleeping bag or heated blankets

 Dehumidifier (dry air is warmer)
