The heat of the summer can be challenging especially if you love to go camping and enjoy outdoor family time that the summer season offers us. Having an A/C is an obvious solution but it’s also one of the most energy consuming appliances. Here are few creative ways to keep your RV cool this summer:

  • Block the light entering through your windows. You can do this by installing window awnings and window shades to reduce the amount of light and heat that enters.
  • Park in the shade at campgrounds when you can and face the side of your RV with windows away from the sun.
  • Don’t cook inside during the day. Instead if you can, plan ahead and eat meals that can be prepared cold like salads, sandwiches, and fruit platters. You could also get a portable grill for cooking outside in the shade.
  • Make sure the refrigerator vent is clean and not blocked by any debris because this can cause heat to get trapped in your RV. Most units have an external vent on the side or the roof to remove this heat.
  • Consider switching to LED lights. The standard lamps that come in your RV can put out a lot of heat in comparison to LED bulbs. This simple switch can have a huge impact.
  • Seal all the exterior storage compartments: hot air can leak through all the hinges and cracks. Use caulking and weather stripping to seal out the hot air.
  • Check your AC air filters to make sure they are clean and intact.
