Looking for some seasonal fun to do with kids? Add theses festive activities to your fall bucket list! We all love summer but it’s hard to beat fall: crisp air, crunchy leaves, pumpkin patches, baking pie and endless outdoor activities. We’ve included traditional activities like going to the pumpkin patch and others you may not have tried like having a backyard bonfire, so there’s something for everyone!

  1. Leaves, leaves, and more leaves! Rake them up and once you have a nice big pile of leaves it’s time to jump!
  2. Pick a pumpkin and decorate! Look up local farms and pumpkin patches and pick one to visit on the weekend. After a fun day of picking a pumpkin you can plan another day for decorating. If you have little ones that might not be up for carving yet, finger paint works great for pumpkins! So does glue and glitter. For older kids you can use stencils for pumpkins and paint pens for more complicated designs. Check out

  3. Backyard bonfires: As the nights get colder, it’s time to break out the campfire and introduce your kids to the joy of s’mores and bring out your favorite cozy throws and blankets.
  4. Have a pie bake off. It’s officially pie season! Have a friendly family bake off competition (you could zoom the grandparents or other family members!) to see who can make the best tasting pie using your favorite fall flavors (apple, pie and pecan of course!).
  5. Go on a camping trip. Autumn is the best time to pitch a tent or your RV in the woods. You can’t beat fewer mosquitos, cooler temperatures and the opportunity to take in fall’s beautiful changing colors.
  6. Cozy up with a book. Now’s the time to go through the stack of books on your nightstand or pick a classic kids book series to read in the evenings together: Harry Potter, Little House on the Prairie, The Chronicles of Narnia, or pick a new series to start as a family. We recommend wearing your most comfortable pajamas and making a cup of hot cocoa or apple cider to sip while you read.
  7. Go on a hike. Pull out your hiking boots and pick out a hiking trail near you for a fun outdoor activity!
  8. Have a fall themed picnic. Picnics aren’t just for the summer! Gather up your favorite fall treats like pumpkin pie, apple slices and caramel, trail mix or ham sandwiches, a blanket and head to your favorite park!
  9. Stargazing. There are some constellations you can only see at this time of year. Look up what constellations are visible that month and what time you’ll be able to see them. You can use the constellations by month guide.
  10. Biking. Biking is a great form of exercise in general but biking on a windy day through the fall landscape will do wonders for everyone’s mood.

We hope these activities help your family to spend more time together and enjoy making memories and being outdoors! Join us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest for more inspiration.
